Kirsten Fanning teaches financial and managerial accounting to undergraduate and MBA students. Fanning has been honored with the QIC Excellence in Teaching Award at DePaul. Prior to joining DePaul, Fanning served as a faculty member at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Villanova University. She earned her PhD in accounting with a minor area in psychology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. ​ Fanning is also an award-winning scholar with research publications in prestigious academic journals, including The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Accounting Horizons, and Journal of Financial Reporting. Her research uses experimental methods to examine how accounting information and its presentation influence investors’ and managers’ judgments and decisions.​​
