About

Julie Artis is Associate Professor of Sociology. She teaches courses on statistics, quantitative reasoning, sociology of family, and sociology of law. She received her BA from Duke University and her MA and PhD from Indiana University. Her research centers on family life and how it intersects with the law, focusing on judicial views of motherhood and fatherhood and how these views have changed over time. She also has a strong interest in diverse family contexts and how they foster child development. Her work has been published in Journal of Marriage and Family, Law & Social Inquiry, Law and Society Review, Journal of Gerontology (Social Sciences), Journal of Health and Social Behavior, and Contexts, as well as edited books.
