Gagik Aroutiunian

Armenian born Gagik Aroutiunian, who grew up in the former Soviet republic, holds a BA in painting, Studio Specialist Program, from the University of Toronto and an MFA in sculpture from Towson University, Baltimore, USA. Aroutiunian lived and worked in Lithuania, Poland, Italy and Canada. For the last twenty years he has been residing in the United States (Baltimore, Cincinnati, Chicago). Aroutiunian has had solo shows of his works in the following locations: in New York, NY: Gallery Juno 1996, 1998, 2002, 2005 in Orlando, Florida: Alice &William Jenkins Gallery 1996, 2009 in Cincinnati, Ohio: Harris K. Weston Gallery 2002 in Rome, Italy: Canadian Cultural Center 1993 in Bydgoszcz, Poland: Galeria Miejska bwa, Galeria Kantorek 2014 in Washington DC: International Sculpture Center 1990 in Covington, Kentucky: The Carnegie Visual and Performing Art Center 2000 in Weston, Massachusetts, Thompson Galery 2014 in Watertown, Massachusetts, Armenian Museum of America, 2016 In 2001-2003 Aroutiunian was commissioned to make a large outdoor sculpture for the campus of Xavier University in Cincinnati. Aroutiunian’s work is in many private and museum collections in England, Germany, Poland, Canada and the US. His work is featured in the book, Armenian Palette-New Generation by Henrik Igityan, founder and director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Yerevan, Armenia. Aroutiunian currently resides in Chicago and splits his time between making art and teaching it as an associate professor at The Art School of DePaul University.
